Former prime minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, was detained at her home in Islambad, after the government decided she had no business attending a demonstration.
Bhutto attempted to pursuade the soldiers guarding her to give her free pass from her home, but they refused her request. Washington called on General Musharraf to grant Bhutto release from house arrest, which included other members of her Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
After a day long showdown, Bhutto was finally permitted to leave her home.
Since the institution of martial law, Bhutto has been permitted to only meet with selected members of the PPP at her home.
