A Washington, D.C., jury has found Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), who is facing re-election next month, guilty on all seven counts of his indictment, which revolved around providing false statements on Senate disclosure forms.

Sarah Palin goes rogue

Good for Sarah Palin. I'm glad to see she is willing to break free of the John McCain mold. Perhaps, one Republican really gets it. I think she is lining herself up for a shot at the White House in 2012. I don't think she will get it, however. But I wish her luck.

Dunkin' Donuts=Gag!

I decided to give the Dunkin' Donuts taste thing a whirl again. I made a brand new pot of it. It has a very strange flavor to it for my taste. In other words, I wouldn't really classify it as coffee. It tastes almost like a coffee substitute (if such a thing exists). It tastes burnt and weak at the same time.

I'm sorry, but I rank Dunkin' Donuts coffee beneath that of Folger's and Maxwell House. It's taste is beneath hubris and just above pond scum. There. I said it.

In re: Dunkin Donuts v. Starbucks

I pride myself on being a connoisseur of coffee. I completely appreciate the extra boldness of a Latin America or Ethiopia brew.

Dunkin Donuts is waging an advertisement war against its archrival Starbucks for the top spot as America's favorite boutique coffee brand. I admit I am a Starbucks whore. There is something about the smell and ambiance of the store that entices me on multiple levels. Yesterday, I decided to two-time my love for Starbucks and give into the Dunkin Donuts hype.

Here's what I learned.

Dunkin Donuts makes a somewhat nice cup of coffee, but it's not Starbucks. It seemed that Dunkin Donuts is playing to the unsophistication of the regular American palate when it comes to the appreciation of fine coffee. It almost tasted like drip Folger's monkeyed-up in a 1970s polyester tuxedo. It was trying to be popular and chic, but it couldn't quite pass the test.

My verdict is simple. I will continue to enjoy the rich, bold taste of Starbucks. They know how to make a cup of coffee I can respect.

George W. Bush's former secretary of state, General Colin Powell, has formally endorsed Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama.

Barack Obama's $150,000,000 Month

During the month of September Barack Obama raised an estimated $150 million! That is outrageous.

Not surprisingly none of that money came from me.

McCain & Obama: Final Round

During last night's debate, Senator John McCain spared little expense in labeling Senator Barack Obama a liberal who wants nothing more than a bloated government, while calling himself a strict federalist.

Although, Senator McCain stated he is "no George Bush," he has failed in distancing himself from the 7-plus years of the presidency of George W. Bush.

It is my opinion that McCain's campaign is essentially over. November 4 will simply illustrate this fact in the most sincere manner.

Gay Marriage

Connecticut has become the third state to remove one of the final bastions of hatred and discrimination, which says that marriage is simply between a man and woman.

The supreme court of the state struck down a ban against gay marriage. It went further to say that civil unions are not equal to that of marriage.

Who's next?

McCain & "That One"

People are being overly aggressive toward John McCain because he referred to Senator Obama as "that one."

It was a botched attempt at humor. That's all there is to it. I noticed that McCain made numerous attempts at humor throughout the debate. I found some of it worth a chortle.

I am not saying McCain and Obama do not have personal anomisity, because they do. It was quite obvious during last night's debate. I believe, however, we should take what people say within the context in which they say it.

O.J. Simpson Guilty

It only took 13 years for O.J. Simpson to receive justice. Ironically, it was 13 years to the very day he was acquitted by a Los Angeles jury for the double murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

I think it is fitting irony!

Sexism in Politics (and Media)

Politicians have been dodging questions from reporters for centuries. Sufficed to say, most of those politicians have been men, but now that Governor Sarah Palin is on the Republican ticket for vice president, she is being called "stupid" for dodging questions.

Here is the double-standard when it comes to what is acceptable in political double-speak:

If a male politician doesn't want to answer a particular question he shrugs it off and answers a question he wished he'd been asked instead. In that case, pundits say, "He's one crafty S.O.B.!"

If a female politician doesn't want to answer a particular question she shrugs it off and answers a question she wished she'd been asked instead. In that case, pundits say, "She's too dumb to know the answer."

Why?

It's a bitter testimonial to the times we live in. Racism is taboo, but sexism is quite alright.

When I watch Sarah Palin answer questions (yes, Katie Couric's questions), I see her doing the same thing a man would do in her place. She deflects and transitions to a sound bit she wants to deliver. That is part of the political game. That is the way all politicians answer questions.

Let's be fair to all of the candidates, both male and female. Be tough, but balanced.

Obama: "Half-breed Muslin"

If you're going to use mixed slurs then you probably should make sure you spell the words correctly, or you might risk looking like an ignorant redneck (just maybe).
