Residents along the Gulf Coast are again being urged to vacate the area as Hurricane Gustav, a category 3 storm, plows through the Gulf of Mexico. Experts believe that this storm could rival Hurricane Katrina in power and devastation by the time it makes landfall sometime tomorrow.
As a result of the storm, President Bush and Vice President Cheney have cancelled their trips to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, which starts tomorrow. Gulf Coast residents seem to be taking this storm's warnings more seriously since the life-altering devastation of Hurricane Katrina three years ago.
If I were in that situation, I believe I would seriously look into moving to an inland area, especially if my property were destroyed for a second time. It will be completely beyond gut-wrenching, if that happens to people.

McCain's VP: Governor Sarah Palin
I was happy with John McCain's choice of a woman to share his presidential ticket. Senator McCain is working hard to win over the Hillary Clinton supporters! He is using Hillary in his television ads to say Senator Obama is inexperienced. Now, he has done what Barack Obama wouldn't do, which is bring a woman to his ticket.
Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) is an unlikely choice. She has been governor of America's 49th state for less than two years, but she brings some heavy credentials to the table, which include her campaign to rid corruption from Alaska's politics. She is also an anchor that ties McCain to the right wing portion of the Republican Party, because she is completely pro-life and a life long member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Barack Obama could have learned a lesson from McCain. He should have picked a woman to be his partner for president. Even though it didn't have to be Hillary Clinton, it would have gone a long way to show Hillary supporters he understands the need for complete change in the landscape of Washington politics.

Was she right?
On the inaugural day of the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has released a campaign video asking the question, "Was she right?" Naturally, they are referring to Hillary Clinton's words calling Barack Obama inexperienced. She said she brought a lifetime of experience to the White House and Obama was bringing a speech he made in 2002 opposing war in Iraq.
Is Hillary right? You bet your ass she is. It would seem that Republicans are going to use Hillary's egregious loss to an inexperienced politician as bait to win over as many of the 18 million voters who supported her primary campaign to the McCain side.

Senator Barack Obama has selected Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) as his running mate for this year's presidential election.
What did Senator Biden have to say about Senator Obama in 2007? "The presidency is not something that lends itself to on the job training." Those are words that Biden backed-up again on an ABC Democratic debate held on August 19, 2007 by saying, "I think I stand behind the statement."
With this comment, it would seem that the only other disingenuous candidate, who holds more disdain, Obama could have picked would have been Senator Hillary Clinton. I guess it just goes to show that Obama is willing to accept his #2 enemy as his running mate.
How come I feel as if this is a Kennedy-Johnson ticket? (Fresh-faced, inexperienced and the old geezer.) Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has already fired back with his own ad condemning Barack Obama for picking a running mate who doesn't believe in his ability to be president.

How many houses do I have?
Umm...let me check with my aides to make sure. I can't recall.
Can anyone believe they wouldn't know how many homes they own? I think the average person would be able to answer that question as a no-brainer, but Senator John McCain (R-AZ) was a bit thrown off by this simple question. He had to tell the reporter he would have to check with one of his employees before he could answer his question!

Pervez Musharraf resigns
The president of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, has offered his resignation to the nation's parliament, which was accepted without delay. In exchange for his official resignation, Musharraf will be allowed to leave the country and enter exile.

Catharsis
Barack Obama supporters say they are not afraid of having Hillary Clinton's name on the roll call at the Democratic National Convention in Denver later this month. Hmmmmm.....
If they aren't afraid, then why do they have to keep saying they aren't afraid? Usually people who aren't afraid of something do not habitually repeat themselves over and over by saying they are not afraid of it.
I hope I made my point about being afraid of something and repeating yourself repeatedly about that fear without ceasing.
Barack Obama bores me! Last night at the "Faith" debate, I realized how silly (and gross) his ears look. They should pin those things.

Roberta McCain wanted her stuff back
In 1980, Roberta McCain, the mother of Republican presidential nominee Senator John McCain (R-AZ), wanted her things returned to her following her son's falling out with his first wife, Carol Shepp McCain.
Although the lawsuit, the McCain campaign calls "unintentional," clearly states she wanted some personal items returned to her, Mrs. McCain reiterates that she did not file the lawsuit. She stated that she would "put [her] hand on a Bible," concerning the lawsuit she claims she did not file.
I suppose 96-years-old is not the most mentally clear age. What about 72?

The Soviet Union is rising again
Since Friday, the tiny country of Georgia has been the focus of the Russian military. Russia is working to prop up its ally, South Ossetia, which is a separatist Georgian province.
The Russian government has bombed many areas of South Ossetia's capital city, Tskinvali. As a result, the Georgian military has fled the city and called for a cease fire. Although, Georgian government officials seem to be bowing to Russian superiority, Russia is bombing areas inside of Georgia, while its tanks continue to roll across Georgia, in order to reach South Ossetia. The Russian navy has also set up a blockade along the Black Sea to cease shipments to Georgia.
The United States has called on Russia to halt its incursions into sovereign Georgia, but that has done little to alleviate the tense situation. As a result, the United States has called the Russian response "far disproportionate." Russia has accused the government of Georgia of attempting to implement a plan of genocide to cleanse South Ossetia of Ossetians, who are loyal to Russia.
All of this brings back memories of the Soviet Union. A large military power forcing its will on its smaller neighbors. Since Boris Yeltsin resigned as president in 1999, the democratic Russia he had worked to build has slowly degenerated back into its communist ways. Why will I not support Barack Obama's presidential bid?
Honestly, after the primary election, I do not trust the man with my vote (or money). He thinks he is more than he is. Right now, the rest of the country buys into his self-inflated meglomania. In the end, it will cost him more than my personal support (and money).

That answer is simple. I still support Hillary Clinton! Instead of voting for an individual on the ballot, I have the option to write-in a candidate. I will enthusiastically write-in, "Hillary Rodham Clinton."
Why doesn't Hillary do more to support Obama's campaign?
In June, Senator Clinton suspended her own presidential bid (she did not end it). In her speech, she stated she is going to support Obama for the Democratic nomination in Denver. In addition to her own support, she asked the 18 million voters, who supported her campaign, to lend their votes to Obama. Hillary's endorsement of Barack Obama is merely political. At the Denver convention, she is hoping that the party delegates may see reason and nominate her as the Democratic presidential candidate. (They'd be wise to follow that course of action.) So that is why Hillary has been doing the bare minimum in terms of supporting Obama over the past couple of months.
Would I consider supporting John McCain?
Months ago, I wrote a blog stating that I would support Senator McCain if Hillary did not receive the Democratic nomination for president. I have retracted that statement feverishly since then, considering McCain is a vote for George W. Bush. I made that statement of McCain support in a moment of weakness!
What am I most proud of during this presidential election cycle?
I am most proud of the fact I am part of the 18 million voters who support Hillary for president. Because of our hard work, Hillary received more votes than any other primary candidate in the history of our country. That's right, she received more than Barack Obama. Hillary's Reprise
Hillary Clinton has been gone far too long from the world's stage. I miss her common sense optimism and realistic vision for our country.
As Barack Obama is painted a racially motivated elitist, who is out of touch with African-Americans, psuedodebutante by the Republican propaganda machine, Hillary needs to lend her voice to the issues that made her campaign concrete.
People can say she is campaigning for Obama, if they want, but in a greater sense she will be campaigning for America. Obama has begun to flip-flop on some issues that he promised to champion, such as the war in Iraq. We do not need a flip-flopper on important issues, like war and healthcare. We demand someone who will represent our values and needs, even when the water is at its darkest and deepest. Politics cannot always be about doing what is popular, but it is about what is required. Of course, the world saw Hillary is able to stand against the collective will of a blatantly biased media and Obama campaign.

John McCain: "The One"
John McCain released a campaign advertisement which basically berated Barack Obama as being too full of himself. If you have seen McCain's video, "The One," you will appreciate what I mean, especially when Moses parts the Red Sea and Obama's suspiciously presidential seal emerges from the parting water. I don't think McCain could have used this against Hillary, however. (Oh well.)
