"Oral" says it all

The cult--I mean Oral Roberts University, has recently come up against opposition and pressure from its own community to divulge its dirty laundry to the rest of the world.

The president of Oral Roberts University, Richard Roberts (the son of the founder, no less), is being called out of his previously unaccountable position to answer allegations by former faculty that he and his family abused their position to filter money for private use.

Even more shocking is the allegations against Roberts' wife, Lindsay Roberts, which state that she perhaps solicited an underage male. Allegedly, there are photographs that show Mrs. Roberts and an unidentified male smoking outside at the president's residence; twenty-nine additional photos showing Lindsay Roberts alone in her car with an underage male after the city imposed curfew. Mrs. Roberts has allegedly spent the night with an underage male at the college's guest home on nine separate occasions.

In addition, Oral Roberts University dismissed its comptroller of twenty-six years after the suit was filed. After his dismissal, documents and other materials were shredded and destroyed. (It sounds like the comptroller did not want to play in the Enron-like games.)

I attended a college that lavished its president. It was almost as if he and his family were royalty and entitled to the best money could provide. He lives in a house almost as big as a dorm, they buy him cars, pay his expenses, and send his family on vacations. He's been there for almost thirty years. No one dares to question him publicly, or risk ridicule, harassment and dismissal. When his son died in a car wreck, after a night filled of boozing and cruising, they immediately built a football complex and named it after him.

How sweet it must be to be the leader of a bunch of bobble heads. I don't doubt for a minute that the allegations against the "first family" of Oral Roberts University are true. People who are unaccountable for so many years find themselves in a mind-set that they can do anything without reproach.
