The parents of a sixteen-year-old girl, who recently married her forty-year-old former high school coach, have filed a lawsuit against the Brunswick County Board of Education for not protecting their daughter from her coach.
Let's examine this case a bit further, with a critical eye.
The parents allege that they filed concerns regarding their daughters involvement with her coach with the school, but it failed to discipline him.
So they did what any frustrated and upset parents would do, they signed a consent form which allowed their daughter to marry the same coach they are suing the school over.
Can we say dummies?
If I were the judge, I would dismiss this case as being hypocritical. At the very least, if the parents wished to continue the case, I would have to advise them that they will have to file charges against themselves, making them co-defendants, for custodial neglect and interference, considering they freely signed the consent form for their daughter to marry the man they are now alleging is a pervert.
You can't have your cake and eat it, too, in this case. If the parents had filed the suit, and not permitted their daughter to marry her coach, instead they filed for a restraining order against him, then their case would have merit.
Case dismissed!
