Bill Clinton: Asset or Liability?

Many see Bill Clinton as a suave, dapper politician who can sway almost anyone into his corner. Others see this type of charm as being a liability to Hillary Clinton's campaign for the presidency.

This week, Hillary and Bill Clinton begin a cross state campaigning bonanza as they criss-cross the state of Iowa. Iowa, being one of the first states to vote next year, will really need to be awed by some home-grown, apple pie eating, stars-and-stripes waving enthusiasm from the Clintons, since it is the Fourth of July week.

But back to Bill.

Bill Clinton served as president for eight years, in his own right. I believe that he has what it takes to win another presidential election, but he is fully aware that this time it is Hillary's victory, not his.

Al Gore wanted to distance himself from his boss, back in 2000. He wanted to be his own man, win by the sweat of his own brow. Although, he did win the popular vote, Gore was ultimately defeated in a very narrow margin that some (including me) believe was fudged by a certain governor, but I digress.

Some argue that if Al Gore had utilized the Clinton mystique more readily, then he could have won in the 2000 election's electoral college, too.

Hillary Clinton understands this dilemma. She understands that she has a very large political asset at her beck-and-call. Unlike Gore, she is not going to squander it. She can still be her own woman, win her own election, but she won't be stupid enough to take the risk of not using Bill Clinton.
