The Associated Press reports that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has left the Republican Party. The lifelong Democrat, switched his party in prelude to the New York City mayoral race in 2001.
With his estimated purse of $5 billion, Bloomberg is seen by many as making his entrance into the presidential election, in 2008, as an independent candidate. (Another H. Ross Perot?)
He better have deep pockets if he is going to do the whole thing alone, without a political party for support and funding. In the end, Bloomberg will stand no chance at winning the presidency in 2008.
