Last week, Russia "planted" its flag at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean, via a sub, in an attempt to lay claim to the area's wealth of natural resources (i.e., oil and natural gas).
The governments of the United States and Canada claim that the media event doesn't justify Russia's exclusivity, when it comes to the exploitation of the resources.
I agree. I think the time of planting flags on the shores of distant lands (or sub-marine landscapes) is passe.
