Congress has decided to abandon a bill that would make crimes based solely on sexual orientation a hate crime.
Democratic members decided that since the bill had a major spending provision for Iraq that they could no longer support it.
The thing is that in a few of weeks (or months) George W. Bush will send the Iraq appropriation bill back to the Congress, put on a pony and dog show, strong-arm congressional members, and get it to pass.
So what is the point of delaying it now? They will merely capitulate later, after they claim they have no choice in the matter (even though the legislative branch is independent of the president).
