Forty-eight hours later the world is still wondering what happened to cause the death of Benazir Bhutto.
It is hard to know what exactly happened, because in twenty-four hours she has been put into the ground. Her body was at the hospital for only a matter of hours before it was given to the mob outside to be sent to its final resting place. Obviously, there was no post-mortem, considering religious reasons.
The "official" government line is that she banged her head on the sunroof of her SUV, which was caused by the concussive force of the suicide motorbiker's blast. I have banged my head plenty of times--albeit, not as a result of someone trying to assassinate me--however, it never led to a skull fracture, much less my death. It is more believable to accept that she was struck by bullets from the gunfire that preceded the explosion.
Why is the government engaging in such a blatant misinformation campaign? Some say it is because they do not want to make her a martyr. I doubt that we will ever get the true story of her death, except maybe from her family, if they know. What's obvious is Bhutto's presence in Pakistan was not applauded by the powers that be, including President Pervez Musharraf.
Perhaps, democracy in Pakistan can be the outcome of her death, which was her ultimate dream.
