The Walking Dead

Am I the only person who watches AMC's The Walking Dead, but secretly wished that I didn't?

I started watching this series at the end of season 2, at the recommendation of a friend. I watched it on Netflix and then caught up with season 3 through iTunes. Now, I'm officially on the full-strength formula via AMC.

It was a very promising series. It was full of cut-throat, zombie-slashing action that cut straight to the chase. There was never a dull moment. People were dying left-and-right. Then, after I wished they would take refuge in the prison, they did.

In prison, they we remain.

I feel like a prisoner on Sunday nights. Instead of living vicariously through these dystopian do-gooders, I am now forced to face the humdrum possibility that the "end of the world" won't be very exciting after all.

Some Sunday nights I secretly think to myself, "I wish I'd blown up in the CDC building in Atlanta."

Of course, please don't tell my friends. On the other-hand, they may agree with me.

Why do people call into news broadcasts and think they can talk for as long as they want? It always amuses me!

Betty White was Beautiful

Last night marked the first time I have tuned into NBC's Saturday Night Live program in what is surely years. And, I only tuned in to see the much talked about former Golden Girl herself, Betty White.

While she publicized the fact she is 88-and-half years old throughout the program, she was witty and devilishly delicious with her running grandmother-inappropriate banter and gags. She made fun of her generation, by saying if she wanted to connect with her friends, she'd have more luck with a Ouija board than Facebook.

It was truly an honor to see Betty White doing what she does best, which is making people laugh. She has a way about her that makes her appear quite benevolent, but what you find is a moist and decadently malevolent muffin. (Yet, another reference to a joke from the program.)

So, to Betty White, thank you for being a friend. I've been down that road with you many times in the past, as a loyal Golden Girls fan (I've only seen every episode a hundred times and each time they get better).

This excerpt from Family Guy was too funny not to share. It makes me laugh out loud each time I see it!

Jon & Kate Plus Hate

Anyone who watches this abortion of a show should have their head examined. I tried watching it before they went all destructive. I found the wife to be smothering, demanding and degrading, and the husband to be a jellyfish of compliance and cowardice. It wasn't worth the five minutes I gave it.

I certainly wouldn't watch it now! I don't know why TLC keeps this show going. Oh I do, it's called money!

Flirty Girl Dance DVD

While watching one of my favorite shows, "The Young & the Restless," I witnessed a new era for television. During the commercial break, they showed a new weight loss video called "Flirty Girl Dance." 

Hmmmm...the only thing is this weight loss program commercial was borderline pornography. The dances were a little risque, to say the least. But the best part was you can try a stripper's pole in your own home for a $1. You just have to ask your operator how! Now, I'm not a prude, for crying out loud. I understand how the world works. I am just shocked to see this kind of commercial on American television before 10 o'clock.  (After all, that's when the kids are supposed to be in bed. Yeah, right!) 

Anyhow, this commercial is in the same category I place those male-enhancement cure-alls, MaxoDerm and Extenze. (Sure, you don't want a bigger penis. You just want more stamina. What a crock of shit.) These are among some of the most lascivious commercials I have seen on television in recent time. They put the commercials for Viagra and Cialis to shame!  

It would seem American television is becoming European in its ways.

CNN: Hitler was "chilling," because of pictures

Life magazine released a cache of color photographs that portray the daily life of Adolf Hitler.

Incorrectly, CNN describes these color pictures as "chilling." I'm not sure what makes them chilling. Is it Adolf Hitler, or the fact the photos show him in color? I guess it is simply his image that makes him evil, and in no way reflects on his actions or character as a human being.

I do not believe that pictures of him in black and white portray him as some lovable character, who was merely misunderstood by the rest of the world. Let's get a grip. CNN is making something out of nothing.

The actions of Hitler were what made him "chilling," not some photographer's lens. It's that simple. Also, thanks to Life for finally decided to let the rest of the world see its collection, which it has been sitting on for over forty years. It is a shame that these pieces of history were locked away in obscurity while some in the world worried about trivial minutia, such as color.

Good-bye, Bea Arthur

Television's Bea Arthur died today at the age of 86. I remember her best from her role as substitute teacher Dorothy Zbornak on The Golden Girls.

I always admired her character's strong convictions, even when they went against the mainstream.
